Oftentimes, those who are pro-choice tend to believe that life begins at birth when that has been proven to be scientifically and biologically incorrect many times. By their logic, you can carry out an abortion up until the mere moment before birth happens. According to science and biology, when a baby is conceived, it is assigned and given a DNA code and a cellular structure that is unique and will never exist again. By carrying out this deadly medical procedure, they have effectively deprived and terminated the opportunity and the right for a human being to live and become a contributing member of the American society. Furthermore, those who are pro-choice will use the argument that what they are carrying in the womb is not a baby, but is instead only a “fetus” and that it is not alive, which is biologically incorrect as well. The term “fetus” is derived from the Latin language meaning “little human”, and it would be scientifically impossible for the baby to continue to grow throughout its developmental stages if it was not alive. Those who are pro-choice will also argue the fact that giving birth can pose a health risk for the baby and can jeopardize the lives of many women. However, according to many studies, less than 2% of mothers have lost their lives and/or developed any significant health detriments due to births, not to mention the advancements of available technology and medical procedures that no longer require women to give birth via the womb, i.e. cesarean sections. In conclusion, abortion is, for the most part, merely a medical escape and an evasion of personal accountability and responsibility for a woman’s actions and poor decisions on who they decide to have sexual intercourse with. Despite the abundant availability of products such as condoms and over 100 forms of birth control, women still decide to have unprotected sex while knowingly disregarding the probable risk of pregnancy. Unprotected sex is the responsibility of the woman since she holds the authority of sexual access because consent must be given, otherwise the sexual encounter is criminal. Not to mention the fact that women have 100% of all reproductive rights. However, I do believe that abortions should only be carried out in specific circumstances such as sexual assault, incest, or child molestation.
