One word. China. The Chinese goverment controls what there people watch on tv, there is no freedom of speech, they are completly disarmed, they are also told how many children they can have.

I think the promotion of economic competition is important for not just the economy, but for the people as well. If a few conglomerates own the world, then that is discouraging for the peoples who want to try their luck starting a business.

If the government is overbearing in the economy, who's to say that the economy won't be managed exclusively through them.
