US defense secretary Lloyd Austin has warned Israel that it risks “strategic defeat” unless it protects Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
In a sign of growing tensions between the close allies as Israel resumes its military campaign in southern Gaza, Austin said Israel would only win if it protected civilians and created humanitarian corridors.
“In this kind of a fight, the centre of gravity is the civilian population. And if you drive them into the arms of the enemy, you replace a tactical victory with a strategic defeat,” Austin said in a speech to the Reagan National Defense Forum in California.
“Like Hamas, ISIS was deeply embedded in urban areas. And the international coalition against ISIS worked hard to protect civilians and create humanitarian corridors, even during the toughest battles,” said Austin, who is a former commander of US forces in the Middle East.
“The lesson is not that you can win in urban warfare by protecting civilians. The lesson is that you can only win in urban warfare by protecting civilians.”

I guess if they kill a bit more Palestinian children they’ll get what they want. Six thousand is too few.

This so called "war" is not even a fair fight, so we need to call it what it is. This obsession to get Hamas and treating the lives of innocent Palestinians as collateral damage is a violation of international law. This can lead to creating more enemies and keep this vicious cycle going in the long run. When Israel finally stops attacking, their government will need to be held accountable for their dismissive and… Read more

America is one of the few countries which automatically sides with Israel. This should be used as leverage for issues which the US opposes the Israeli government, such as civilian casualties and population displacement in the Gaza offensive. While Israel is one of the few governments in the area built on Western values, US support is not unconditional.

A death toll of over 10,000 with only 60 confirmed Hamas affiliates being among them is not a victory, nor something to gloat about.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been ongoing for decades, with periodic outbreaks of violence and tensions between the two sides. I think they should try to bring peace.because the current political conflict began in the early 20th century and still going
