By giving teachers guns, you are trusting individuals with a school full of life. Who’s to say that one teacher won’t turn around and use that gun for negative reasons? You can have parasites eating your brain and never know until you wake up in a state of rage and have no control. Why would we give anyone the chance to have that happen?

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

Couldn’t that same argument be applied to security guards, cops, CCW permit holders? Also, there’s nothing prohibiting a teacher from obtaining a firearm and unlawfully doing the same criminal activity. Your argument isn’t based in reality.

 @9GHFTW6from Maine agreed…6mos6MO

I believe that in certain circumstances they should be or the other thing to do is get more guards and do more training on how to possibly get students in a safer situation.

 @9GHPFY6Republican from Oregon agreed…6mos6MO

I think teachers should go through training and be provided a gun with a very protective safe so no one can get it. but they should have it to help prevent and stop school shootings

 @9GJC499 from Indiana agreed…6mos6MO

i agree, you cant have security guards in every classroom so arming the teachers would be the best option, but they must be trained by a professional in gun safety and take classes on having to act under pressure. they must also do an aiming course and have an accuracy of 80% or higher

 @9GKKF6VRepublican from North Carolina agreed…6mos6MO

I think teachers shouldn't be armed but schools should be built to protect the students like instead of windows in doors you could put peepholes in the doors and instead of wooden doors you could put more reliable and strong doors in a classroom.

 @9GHPN2K from Oregon agreed…6mos6MO

i agree. if teachers are armed the chance of a shooting even happening go down drastically. And if they do try and shoot it up

 @9GSZXW6Democratfrom Guam disagreed…6mos6MO

Create a better school shooter system by having immediate help available at all times. Provide better training to teachers, students, and police/security. Providing teachers with firearms leads to higher risk.

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

In what way does it create higher risk. As a concealed carry permit holder, I have been carrying a loaded firearm in public for the purpose of lawful self defense and the defense of others for over 20 years. Never once was the public in any risk. If anything, they were safer. The only difference is that I wasn’t a teacher? Can you quantify how the profession of the individual makes him or her a higher risk than anyone else? It would seem to me that all the risk lies with waiting for the shooter to stop pulling the trigger while you wait for this help to arrive.

 @9GRLBSKRepublican from Ohio disagreed…6mos6MO

That is true, however, not all teachers should be trusted to conduct themselves in a manner responsible enough to control and own a firearm around children. There are many ways that having a gun in close proximity to children could go wrong. For instance, a teacher may go crazy and resort to threats with said gun or may not keep it secure enough and out of reach for children. To fix this potential issue, professionally trained bodyguards should patrol schools and be responsible for wielding firearms on school property.

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

I agree that in a perfect scenario, we wouldn’t need to place the burden on the teachers directly. They would be given the opportunity coupled with mandatory training. But I would add that I’m amazed at how many times the topic of not being able to trust the mental state of teachers has been raised in objection to my arguments. It amazes me how many people distrust teachers and blindly trust some “security guard” without the same concern. Would you mind elaborating on why you feel teachers are or may be unfit to carry a firearm in self defense or in defense of their students, but the concern evaporates when the stranger’s profession is shifted to the title, Security Guard?

 @9GR5WLYIndependent from Texas disagreed…6mos6MO

The security guard does not have to be everywhere at once. Are cops at my door when I dial 911? No. It would only take minutes at most for security guards to respond at a school if they are inside.

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

Think about what you just said. Police are the people who show up to take the report after a crime has already been committed. A security guard does not have a minute to respond to shots actively being fired into a crowded classroom or hallway. Don’t be naive.

 @9GNWWSD from California disagreed…6mos6MO

If you need armed protection, have security guards in each block of campus and hallways. If not, have further bullet-proof walls and security measures. Giving guns to teachers can lead to accidental shots and mistakes or possibly in the hands of wrong people.

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

Do you have any reason to suggest that guns in the hands of teachers means accidental discharges will likely occur? Because they would obviously be accustomed to carrying in public, just like a CCW permit holder would. How incompetent do you think teachers are that they would not have the self discipline to keep a firearm safely stored or holstered until its deployment is required? This argument lacks both facts and merit. Do you have a study that suggests that teachers are more irresponsible with firearms than the general public or security guards?

 @9GJJGGP from Georgia disagreed…6mos6MO

We have no way to know if teachers will give their life for their students, and they themselves may be the ones with the gun in a shooting. There should instead be increased security and if possible security guards should be hired.

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

What would stop that teacher from bringing a gun from home? Are you suggesting that a security guard couldn’t shoot up a school? Why do you trust them over the people in charge of educating our kids?

 @9GHH58M from Pennsylvania disagreed…6mos6MO

But if they have fire arm then if they don't know how to use not only could they hurt themselves but students

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

The idea here is that the responsibility would come with training requirements.

 @9GHGMCGfrom Maine disagreed…6mos6MO

Armed teachers are dangerous in themselves and can be the cause of many accidental shooting and disasters. Although it would be helpful against school shootings, there's too many negative things that could happen instead.

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

How would that happen? There’s no reason to assume that a secured firearm would negligently discharge itself into a child. That scenario is highly unlikely.

 @UnforgettableEqu4lityRepublicanfrom Illinois disagreed…6mos6MO

Having a firearm within reach could accidentally lead to more violence. There have been cases where students, out of curiosity or malice, managed to get hold of an adult's firearm with tragic results. Additionally, teachers are trained to educate, not to handle security situations. They might not react appropriately under stress, leading to more harm than good.

 @9GHCS8F  from California commented…6mos6MO

You are correct but by not giving the option, you force them to be victims with no ability to protect themselves or anyone else. We’re not asking them to be security guards. We’re giving them a way to defend themselves against an active shooter.

 @9GHKT82 from Iowa disagreed…6mos6MO

It's unsettling to think about teachers being armed. And not all teachers have good judgment or minds.

 @9GHCS8F from California commented…6mos6MO

What’s unsettling is that someone who fits that description is allowed to continue educating children.

 @9GTCWYBWomen’s Equality from Texas agreed…6mos6MO

I agree with this comment. At least one teacher should be armed. It would be pretty much impossible to keep the threat away from you and your students.

 @9GHGT4KIndependent from Maine disagreed…6mos6MO

Armed teachers put more students at risk. You can’t ensure every teacher is mentally stable to carry a gun.

 @9GHGPL2from Maine disagreed…6mos6MO

Teachers should not be armed because there is no way of making sure there is no miss fire of the weapon or the students getting their hands on it and hurting someone.

 @9GHGMQKfrom Maine disagreed…6mos6MO

If it was known teachers are armed would only increase casualties and most shooters come from within the classroom or outside so it would be better to have guards to report to the position instead of teachers having known weopens to students

 @9GL2F7S from California disagreed…6mos6MO

While the case about protection is true, it can be deemed unnecessary. What's more dangerous is having more guns in the same location. I think yes, defending themselves is important, but it's also important to leave the dangerous handling of weapons, up to trained professionals in the field.

 @9GKKCMV from North Carolina disagreed…6mos6MO

If teachers have access to guns, that means some students can find access to it too, kids always manage to sneak around right under adults noses, there are other solutions than bringing the treat into the building your trying to protect WILLINGLY.

 @9GJPTTN from New Jersey disagreed…6mos6MO

I think that teachers shoudn't be armed because if they have anger issues and god forbid a students pushes their limits, they may pull out a gun on their student and threaten them . Their should be multiple security guards .

 @9GHS4WPdisagreed…6mos6MO

Teachers should be trained to use firearm and only use during threat situation. As long the students is safe without harm armed teachers should be allow use in school.

 @9GJJGD8 from North Carolina agreed…6mos6MO

i completely agree. with the way the world is today, and all the gun violence. teachers should be able to keep a gun on them/in their classroom stored away for protection of themselves and their students.

 @9GHQ7NL from West Virginia agreed…6mos6MO

Yes, the teacher should have the right to carry small arms in school but not military grade equipment

 @9GHK9M8 from Alabama agreed…6mos6MO

I would love for teachers to have a firearm, only hand guns, to be able to protect their class if an intruder comes in. "Shoot first ask questions later"

 @9GXCKXQRepublican from Colorado agreed…6mos6MO

I absolutely agree with this statement because teachers should be able to protect themselves and their students against any shooters.
