Which political party do you most identify with?
While they might seem similar on the surface, they are fundamentally different. Age is a measurable, chronological fact, and race is a biological and social construct that has significant sociocultural implications and history. On the other hand, gender identity is about one's personal, internal sense of their own gender.
Consider the example of left-handed people. For a long time, being left-handed was stigmatized and those individuals were forced to use their right hand. However, despite societal pressure, left-handed people still felt inherently 'left-handed'. The same logic applies to gender identity. It's not about choosing to be a certain gender out of whimsy, but rather an inherent feeling of one's own identity.
As for the aspect of 'thinking logically', science supports the existence and validity of transgender individuals. The American Psychological Association recognizes the importance of affirming one's gender identity for their mental health.
How do you think society could better understand or support the experiences of those who identify as a gender different from their birth sex?
